Bucatini all Amatriciana
Cinnamon gelato & double espresso
1298 N Palm Ave. Sarasota, FL 34236
Cafe Epicure has got to be one of my favorite restaurants in Sarasota. Serving consistently awesome Italian food in a casual atmosphere with reasonable prices. They offer one of the best cups of espresso in the state as well as over 20 flavors of creamy gelato and other freshly-made pastries.
The place is divided into 2 rooms. The main section houses the wine bar, gelato/ desert display cases and the seating for the restaurant. The second room is home to the martini bar area with seating, and late-night, pizza-only dining. Both areas have great outdoor seating as well.
What sets Cafe Epicure apart, is the fact that everything is made in-house: the pasta, gelato, sauces, breads, and pastries.
Thin-crust, wood-burning pizza napoletana-style come in 1 size that's perfect for splitting or hoarding to yourself if you're really hungry. The house-made pastas are cooked perfectly al dente every time and are topped with quality home made sauces. Cafe Epicure also offers excellent cocktails - my favoirtes are the lemon drop and the greyhound. They also offer over 200 bottles of wine organized by region as well as wines by the glass.
Once you check this place out, I promise you'll add it to your weekly restaurant repetoire!
My Favorites: Rigatoni al Quatro Formaggi, Spaghetti alla Carbonara, Siciliana Pizza, Bucatini all Amatriciana, Espresso, Gelato, and various, daily-changing pastries; but seriously, EVERYTHING is good here!
Atmosphere: Open, bistro-style dining room with plenty of windows, wine bar, modern outdoor seating. Resort-style casual dresscode. Not to say I haven't shown up in a moo-moo during lunch...
Cost: Appetizers range from $8.50-$13.50; Salads from $6.95-$10.95; Entrees from $12.50-$22.95; Pizzas from $10.95-$14.50.
